Eggs & Keys

Monday, August 05, 2019

Well, I'm certainly not good at updating this thing! I just finished playing Helen Keller in Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre's production of The Miracle Worker, which was an absolute gift to play again. And it wasn't bad getting to bask in the summer air of the Western North Carolina mountains, either.

"This production brings out two riveting performances in Ladd and Laughland. Both actresses shake up the familiarity we associate with the iconic, Oscar-winning depictions by Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke...."

"Similarly, Laughland goes the distance. She is thrillingly bold with her interpretation while managing to make her expressions and mannerisms believable."

Playwrights, Playwrights, Everywhere!

Sunday, January 27, 2019

I just finished up participating in Barter Theatre's annual Appalachian Festival of Plays & PlaywrightsMontgomery, by Stephen Brown, was a crowd favorite and had an excellent production at Bristol Valley Theater this past year! I was lucky enough to play the character of Megan, and it was truly a glorious time. I also sang the role of Millie in the musical review, We'll Meet Again, by Jim Harris and Mark Hayes, boasting a review of 1940's war songs that everyone could go back in time with.

In addition, I read in the first annual College Playwrights Festival, giving students from across the South an opportunity to workshop their incredible plays. I read as Maria in Contemporary Company by Nick Struck and as Eva in Shark-Infested Waters by Lee Kromer. I hope to see them in future festivals!

I can't believe I began at Barter Theatre in 2014. March 31st, 2014 I drove down to Abingdon, Virginia to begin as a Barter Player and a job-in dancer for The Wizard of Oz. 4 years later I'm about to embark on another full year of theatre and I couldn't be more excited. This year's line-up for includes:

Margo in Bright Star (Regional Premiere!)

Melanie Tatum in In The Heat of the Night (So incredibly important in our society right now)

Michelle & Nun in Sister Act the Musical

Annelle in Steel Magnolias

Ensemble in Singing in the Rain

Chiara & Carolyn U/S in The Bridges of Madison County

Jovie in Elf

Rehearsals start up February 2nd, so in the meantime I'm taking classes and visiting friends and family throughout Maryland and New York. On to the next!
